IEEE 802.11 Exposed Station Problem Visualization

The Exposed Station Problem

In wireless networks, the exposed station problem occurs when a node is prevented from sending because of a nearby transmitter that it can hear, even though the node's transmission would not interfere with the ongoing transmission. For example, if node B is transmitting to node A, node C will detect the transmission and defer its own transmission to node D, even though simultaneous transmissions would not cause interference since A and D are outside each other's interference range.
