About

The Systems Research Group focuses on designing, building, and evaluating computer systems that are efficient, reliable, and scalable. Our research spans multiple areas including distributed systems, operating systems, computer architecture, and system/application security.

We tackle fundamental challenges in modern computing systems, from cloud infrastructure and edge computing to emerging hardware architectures and system software. Our work combines theoretical insights with practical system building, resulting in both academic contributions and real-world impact.

Research

Our research addresses fundamental challenges in modern computing systems, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance. We work on both theoretical foundations and practical system implementations.

Cloud Computing

We design and build computing infrastructures and tools to support high performance and high throughput computing for use in various computational science disciplines, in particular Bioinformatics and Computational Chemistry.

Instrumentation and Autonomous Systems

We develop tools to support autonomous navigation in drones and surface water vehicles. We also develop sensors and associated software for sensing various environmental parameters.

Cybersecurity

We study systems and networks to determine if they are vulnerable to exploitation. We develop tools for mitigating threats.

Computer Science Education

We develop tools and techniques to further improve teaching operating systems, computer networks and other systems topics.
